Target villages


The REEPRO team surveyed several villages regarding their suitability to become a REEPRO pilot community. Some of those villages, which were not selected as pilot villages are presented below.

 

Ban Sanlath

Sanlath village is located 23 km far from district capital Mai. Traveling by motorbike or car spent 90 minutes. There are 133 households comprised with a population of 855 (438 female) most of them are part of the Lao Soung ethnic group. The people live from agriculture such as rice farming and gardening. All children attend school. Only 50 people of totaling 167 people offered highest grade 5. The village lacks of meeting room or mor important a health care centre.

The village has no electricity access yet. The inhabitants mostly use diesel lamps, small gen-sets, candles or lead-acid automobile batteries for lighting.

Income comes from agricultural production (rice farming, gardening) and animal raise (pigs, cattles and water buffaloes) in highest 19,440,000 LAK/year a household (1.482 EUR) and lowest 480,000 LAK/year (36.06 EUR).







 

Ban Thasalueng

The distance from district capital to village amounts 13 km and it takes about 55 minutes traveling by car or motorbike. The total population of 609 people comprised 299 female. The 105 households live primarly from agriculture such rice farming, crop planting and secondary from animal raise (goats, pigs, buffaloes). Most of the inhabitants are Khamung and Lao Seung ethnics. There is a  primary school with 5 rooms (grade 1 to 5) and one meeting hall, which is available to hold meetings or trainings.

They have no energy supply from national grid. People mostly use diesel lamps (1-2 lamps/household), candles and lead-acid automobile batteries for lighting.

Furthermore there is a hand tractor, a small Hyundai and a small engine that generate electricity at night. Estimated fuel consumption (diesel) amounts 20l/unit/month for rice mill of totaling 25 rice mill and diesel lamps consumed 1-2l/month, 15-20 candles. They generate electricity from 2 pico-hydro which can only use in rainy season.

The highest income comes from selling corns amounts estimatly 18,000,000 LAK/year a household (1,372 EUR) and lowest income 1,000,000 LAK/year (76.25 EUR).







 

Ban Mokjark

This village is located 18 km far from district capital and it spend 60 minutes to arrive it.  There are 68 households, with an total population of  446 persons that comprised by 203 female. All are part of Khamung ethnic. The main income is farming, based on traditional methods. Animal raised such cattles, water buffaloes and pigs is secondary. There is one school with only one room for 83 students and 1 teacher. Students can graduate with grad 1. Further the village has a first aid kid and meetings will be held at school.

The village has no connection to the national grid yet. Most of the people use diesel lamps. 2 pico- hydro generate lighting for 4-5 households during the rainy season.

However there are about 18 Hyundai engines, owned by the villagers. They spend 5-10l/month for lighting CD (9CDs), with cassette players use battery. Others spend 1-2l/month for diesel lamps.

The income from selling animal and crops, amounts between 17,000,000 LAK/year a household (1,296 EUR) and 1,000,000 LAK/year (76.00 EUR).







 

Ban Naom

The village located 15 km far from the district capital. Traveling by motorbike or car spents about 60 minutes. There are 82 households with a total population of 386 that comprised 183 females. Their main occupation based on upland farming, mainly rice (about 10 families have their own rice farm) and gardening. All are part of Khamoung ethnic group.  The community has one primary school (only grade 1) for 51 students and 1 teacher.

The inhabitants have no electricity access. Almost they use diesel lamps (95%) or acid automobile batteries (5%) for cassette recorder and CD players. The fuel consumption amounts 2l/household/month and 20l/month from small engine for television.

The income from selling corn and animals amounts a maximum of 9,000,000 LAK/year a household (686.00 EUR) and lowest about 1.000.000 LAK/year (76.00 EUR).







 

Ban Kornoy

Kornoy village is located 13 km far from the district capital. Traveling by motorbike or car spents about 60 minutes. There are 207 households with a total population of 1013 which comprised 488 females. All are rank amoung the Lao Luang ethnic group. The main occupation of the inhabitants based on upland farming, at first rice and gardening. They raise pigs, water buffaloes and cattles. The education is on an higher level than in the other villages. In Kornoy there are a primary and a secondary school with 478 students and 19 teachers. Aditionally, there is a health post and a temple.

Even though they have a better infrastructure, they have no electricity access. Almost they use diesel lamps, some families use candles and/or acid automobile batteries as well as rice mill engine generated for CD players and/or TV.

The highest income amounts 24,000,000 LAK/year a household (1,983 EUR) and the lowest amounts about 6,000,000 LAK/year (496.00 EUR).







 

Ban Hoipor

It is located 13 km far from the district capital. Traveling by motorbike or car spents more then 60 minutes. There are 74 households with a total population of 384 which comprised 207 females. The main occupation based on upland farming, primary rice and gardening. They are part of the Kamung ethnic group. The village has a primary school (grade 1-2) with 42 students and 1 teacher, during the visite. Furthermore a health post and a temple.

Almost they use diesel lamps and small engine generated electricity. There are 22 engines Families pay 25,000 LAK/month (2 EUR/m). They have 15 televisions and 3 CD players in the village, for which the inhabitants use acid automobile batteries.

The income they receive from selling corn, animals and their labor force.
